3 Day Radio Workshop at Oberon 13 - 24 year-olds

Get on the airwaves! A free 3-day radio workshop is being held at Oberon this week, 18-20th by AFTRS (Australian Film Television and Radio School). This workshop is being presented by Arts OutWest and funded by Arts NSW. Dates: 18, 19, 20 January

Venue: Oberon Community Centre, next to the library; Time: 9am-5pm; Ages: 13-24 years. This is a wonderful opportunity for young people in the Oberon, Lithgow or Bathurst area to learn how to present and design their own radio show. On the Friday, participants are being driven to Bathurst in a mini bus for a radio station tour and also a chance to record some of their own material! This course is also run is Sydney and usually costs a couple of hundred dollars. Places are limited.

The ABC Heywire Competition

Young people from regional and rural Australia 16-22 years of age are invited to submit a story in text, audio, pictures or moving images about their life issues and experience. Winning stories are selected from each of approximately 41 ABC regions around Australia to be broadcast on national ABC radio. Radio Plays go to air

Thanks to some hard work and long hours by Peter Carter, Master Technician, the second series of radio plays is now completed. Yes, five plays for the Other Side of the Line series are now written, performed, recorded, edited, credited and enhanced with music and sound effects and will go to air on FM 107.5 The Local Station 10am on weekdays and 12 noon on weekends until 21 June. Everyone involved with the plays will be celebrating on this Sunday before the first play by Joan Brown called Waiting Still goes to air at 12 noon. Congratulations to all the playwrights including Joan, Ross Stephenson for True Blue Publishing, Robin and Annie by Freya Hawke, Stephen Nugent for The West Winging It and the The Strolling Player of Kikacro by Bakka Bourke. Well done to all and happy listening.

Last call for Radio Plays

If you want to hear your radio play on the airwaves then drop it into the Central West Writers' Centre at Orange City Library or call 6393 8125. Orange Community Broadcasters FM 107.5 are getting ready to produce some fantastic local plays as part of The Other Side of the Line Project and there is room for one or two more. So be quick if you want your masterpiece to come to life.
